She challenged Bondowoso to build a thousand temples dedicated to her within a single night, a seemingly impossible feat even for the most skilled builders. Believing he could overcome any obstacle with his magical powers, Bondowoso accepted the challenge. He summoned an army of genies and instructed them to begin construction immediately.

As the sun began its descent, casting long shadows across the land, the temples rapidly rose from the earth. Stone by stone, they materialized into majestic structures adorned with intricate carvings and towering spires. Roro Jonggrang watched in awe and fear as Bondowoso’s magical prowess unfolded before her eyes.

Desperate to foil his efforts, she ordered her loyal maids to pound rice and scatter it around the construction site. The genies, believing the sound of pounding was the dawn approaching, ceased their work abruptly, leaving the thousandth temple incomplete.
